Phase I exam is a state level exam and is conducted by all the Indian states and union territories. On the other hand, NTSE Stage Two is conducted for the students who clear Stage One. As mentioned earlier, only those who qualify for NTSE Stage 1 can appear for Stage 2 exam. This is the main criterion. Meanwhile, the NTSE organization aims to provide scholarships to potential candidates who are interested in pursuing higher education in the field of science or social studies. Through these scholarships, students will be able to continue their studies as per their wish. NTSE Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of the overall performance of the students in both the examination stages.

NTSE Scholarship Information:
1250/- per month scholarship is provided for class XI to XII. 15,000 per year.
2000/- per month scholarship is provided for undergraduate and postgraduate students. 24,000 annually.For PhD, the scholarship amount is determined by the UGC norms.
Eligibility Criteria for NTSE 2021 Exam:
NCERT has set the age limit for the students to take the exam. Candidates age should be less than 18 years (as on 1st July, 2021).
NTSE Stage 1 Eligibility (State Level Exam)
Students studying from schools in India are eligible to appear in the first stage examination. The eligibility criteria are as follows.
Candidate must be a 10th class student from any public/private school in India.
There is no restriction on accommodation. Candidate can be from any State/Union Territory of India.
Candidates studying in Open Education or Distance Learning are also eligible to write NTSE 2020 if they are below 18 years of age, not employed and appearing in 10th Board Standard Examination for the first time.
NTSE Stage 2 Eligibility (National Level Exam):
Only students who qualify in Stage 1 (State Level Test) are eligible for Stage 2 exam. Candidates shortlisted by NCERT will be informed about their roll number, venue and date of examination through their official website.
NTSE Eligibility for Abroad Students:
Indian students studying in 10th or abroad are directly eligible to write Stage 2 (Level II examination) and are exempted from Phase I examination.
Candidate must have secured 60% in the previous year annual examination.
The candidate must appear for the examination at a center in India.
Candidates have to submit an application through the Head of the Institute in which they are studying, along with attested copy of the mark sheet for Standard IX. Applications should reach the Head of Educational Survey Department, NCERT, New Delhi by 31st December of the respective year.
The selected candidate will get the scholarship only when he/she decides to study in India.
Interested students can contact the official of their state/UT to get the NTSE application form. The pre-filled application form must be signed by the school principal before the submission deadline. No application will be accepted after the last date of application form.
