National Energy Conservation Day 2021 (December 14)

National Energy Conservation Day 2021 (December 14)

National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated every year on 14th December in India. The main aim of National Energy Conservation Day is to create awareness among the people about the significance of our energy resources and also to minimize the energy consumption. Looking at the background, in  India Energy Conservation Act was implemented by Energy Efficiency Bureau (BEE) in 2001. Energy Efficiency Bureau (BEE) is a constitutional body which works under Government of India and helps in the development of policies and strategies to reduce use of energy.

What is energy conservation?  The true meaning of energy conservation is to avoid unnecessary use of energy and to use at least energy so that energy sources can be saved for future uses. To make energy conservation plan more effective, everyone should include energy conservation in their daily lives.

National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated every year with a special theme to make some goals and objectives more effective among the people. It is celebrated among people to send messages of importance of energy conservation in every area of life – to promote the process of energy conservation, organizing many programs like discussions, conferences, debates, workshops and competitions and encourage people to reduce energy consumption and use it efficiently. Ultimately, it can be said that our scientists are engaged in discovering and developing new and alternative resources of energy. But it is our duty to understand the importance of energy and become aware of energy conservation.

What are the measures for energy conservation? It is the easiest and effective way to save the extra energy usage which can be played a major role towards National Energy Conservation Campaign.    Fossil fuels, crude oil, coal and natural gas etc. are generating enough energy to use in daily life, but their demand is increasing day by day, which creating fear of lack of natural resources in the future. Therefore, for energy conservation, we should use renewable energy resources instead of the non-renewable resources of energy.

In other words, the importance of going “green” comes under the spotlight here. It’s not just energy, but environment-awareness also comes in, bringing in the concept of environment-conservation.

Role of women entrepreneurs

Coming to the domain of women entrepreneurs, women are increasingly perceived to play a significant role in realising the transformation to a greener economy and poverty reduction in countries with developing economies. Various studies confirm the direct and indirect impact of women entrepreneurs. Raising female employment could impact a country’s GDP by a growth rate of up to 34%.

Women also contribute to the greater availability of human resources of a country´s green industry by investing household income in the well-being and proper education of their children. At the same time, women are known to apply particularly environmental friendly behavior in various spheres. These include more recourse-efficient production as well as consumption behavior and higher sustainable decisions for their households and businesses.

The world is waking up to a new reality and the devastating consequences of such problems as environmental degradation and deforestation, shrinking water supplies, threats to biodiversity, lack of affordable green housing, waste management issues, and ocean pollution.

But, the good news is that a new generation of innovative women ‘entrepreneurs’ in Africa are playing their part in finding solutions to dealing with the impact of waste on our environment. They are successfully linking sustainable business to environmental consciousness and concern for societal well-being. This is the basis for a new wave of women-led entrepreneurship taking root in Africa, resulting in a new generation of women-led startups with environmental consciousness at their core.

Another factor is – today’s consumers are becoming increasingly aware and conscious about how their purchasing decisions impact the environment. As a result, a new market for eco-friendly “green” products has opened up for e-tailers and the new generation of entrepreneurs who truly do care about the environment! A number of players are connecting with customers by offering products that are safe, pure and eco-friendly. Being earth friendly or eco-friendly has become a necessity in today’s world of global warming. It requires deliberate steps from people of all walks to reduce environmental damage.
