Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project ‘Statue of Unity’ has been completed in just 33 months and has become the world’s largest 182-meter statue of Sardar Patel.  Now the Statue of Unity has become a sight to behold not only for Gujarat but also for tourists from home and abroad.  In 2010, Modi announced the erection of the Statue of Unity as the Chief Minister and the work on the statue began in 2013.  The biggest feature of this statue is that 135 metric tons of iron was collected from more than 5 lakh farmers across the country in the form of old farming implements and 109 tons of iron was used to lay the foundation of this statue.  Designed by world-renowned sculptor Ram Sutar, the statue was created by Larsen & Toubro (LNT).  How did the project of the Statue of Unity at Sadhubet, just 3.5 km from Sardar Sarovar Dam on the river Narmada, the lifeline of Gujarat, come about?  How was the Kevadia Colony area around the statue developed to attract tourists?  What are the features of Unity that set it apart from other statues?  We are telling you all these interesting things through this report today.
