Big decision / big relief for farmers! The Modi government has increased the subsidy on DAP, now it will get so much money.
The Centre’s Modi government on Wednesday took a major decision in the interest of farmers. The Cabinet has increased the subsidy rate on DAP Fertilizer by Rs 700 per bag. Now the price of DAP will be Rs 2400 per sack. Earlier, farmers used to get a subsidy of Rs 500. The increase in subsidies will place an additional burden of Rs 14,775 crore on the exchequer. This information was given by Mansukh Mandvi, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers.
What was the proposal?
The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Department of Fertilizers to increase the nutrient-based subsidy rate for phosphorus and potash based fertilizers. This recommendation has been made for 2021-22. In a press conference today, Mansukh Mandvi said that the central government had earlier reduced the subsidy for non-urea fertilizers. This reduced the burden on the exchequer by Rs 22,186.55 crore during the Corona epidemic this financial year.
Subsidy on fertilizers fell to Rs 18.78
The Fertilizer Ministry said in a statement that it has reduced the subsidy on nitrogen-based fertilizers to Rs 18.78 per kg and phosphorus-based fertilizers to Rs 14.88 per kg for the current financial year. Similarly, the subsidy on potash was reduced to Rs 10.11 per kg, while on sulfur it was fixed at Rs 2.73 per kg. For 2019-20, the subsidy was fixed at Rs 18.90 per kg for nitrogen, Rs 15.21 per kg for phosphorus and Rs 11.12 per kg for potash. Similarly, the subsidy for sulfur was fixed at Rs 3.56 per kg.
